Today's Military Monday, spouse highlight is Mrs. K the lovely blogger behind MrsKandCaptainJ. Go spend some time with her!
Name and blog site: Mrs. K / MrsKandCaptainJ.com
Branch of service: Army
Current Duty Station: Ft. Polk, LA. (We've been here almost 6 months).
Favorite restaurant in the area: So far, my favorite restaurant is Cecil's. It has some Cajun dishes that are tasty and it fulfills our need to feel like we're in civilization! Many of the restaurants around here are "Mom and Pop" places, but Cecils has a sports bar feel to it.
Previous duty stations: Ft. Wainwright, Alaska and Ft. Benning, Georgia
3 favorite things to do- I was very pregnant when we arrived here and then I had a newborn to cart around after that so we haven't had much of a chance to get out and explore. We hope to change that as Baby K gets older.
For now, though-
For now, though-
1) Head to post for some Starbucks coffee and people watching (creepy?)
2) Drive to the closest big(ger) city, Lake Charles, for shopping, dining, and/or movie viewing
3) Cook out! The weather is warm almost constantly :)
Favorite Duty Station so far: This one is easy. Alaska! We loved it. We're outdoorsy people so we had fun camping in the arctic, hiking in the mountains, skiing, hanging out in the natural hot springs, experiencing sixty below zero, and fishing the Chena River. There was so much for us to do and we'd love to go back.
Who is your hero? Mom. She always has a good attitude on life and an attractive spirit that makes everyone want to be around her. I wish I was a little more like her. (* if you want to link to my Mom's blog it can be found at http://kimbodarlin.wordpress. com )
If you would like your blog to be featured here and would like the chance to highlight where you are stationed, please email me at HandlingWithGrace {at} gmail.com

My husband's family is in DeRidder, LA (where Cecil's is located near Ft. Polk)...it's a great small town! Whenever anyone is heading that way, I always tell them to check out deRidder if they will be living off post...way better than Leesville and not a bad drive...a great burger and bbq joint in DeRidder is Presleys...in downtown near Cecils!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog by the way! I love this duty station feature! I'm new to the blogging world, but I am loving reading all of the military and military spouse blogs! By the way, I'm at McGuire AFB (Joint Base McGuire Dix Lakehurst) if you every want to do a post here!
