The
Military Monday duty station feature on this blog is designed for us
military families to meet our fellow military spouses and also to learn
about duty stations across the world. We all get to (or have to depending
on your outlook and particular set of circumstances), move every couple
years to different duty stations that are scattered throughout the
country and the world. This feature will allow us the opportunity to
explore these different areas of the world before we get there.
If you are interested in being highlighted for this feature, please send me an email.

Tabitha, My-Cliffnotes
Branch of service:
ANG, but I was AF for 6
years.
Where currently stationed: Portland, ANGB, Oregon
Where currently stationed: Portland, ANGB, Oregon
How
long have you been there?: Four years
Previous duty stations:
Previous duty stations:
McChord AFB, WA
Scott AFB, IL
Keesler AFB, MS
Riverside AFB, CA
Lackland AFB, TX
Kirkuk AB, Iraq
Ashgabat, Turkmenistan
Kandahar AB, Afghanistan
Abu Dhabi, UAE
Favorite restaurant in the area: A Louisiana Bistro called
Acadia. My Fiancé and I stumbled across it a few years ago and fell in love
immediately. The menu is constantly changing and the food is always amazing.
3 favorite things to do in your current city:
Run,
the city is has two huge rivers (The Columbia and Willamette), and a ton of
bridges, Beauty isn’t hard to find.
Happy Hour, Portland is said to be America’s Best city for Happy Hour (gotime.com).
We live in the city and on our street alone I can think of at least a dozen
places that have wonderful happy hour.
Shop, there are so many fun
local artists and designers. Plus 7 Nordstroms, what more can a girl ask for! J
Favorite duty station so far:
Definitely Here. I really
love this city.
Who is your hero?
I have two.
1. My twin sister, she might
be younger (4 minutes) but her strength in insurmountable. She has been my
person my entire life and I really couldn’t do anything without her support,
encouragement and love.
2. My fiancé, it is so
corny but when you know you know. This man completes me. He makes me laugh all
the time, and I really couldn’t imagine living life without him.
What is the biggest draw back to where your current duty station? It’s a Guard base, so it’s pretty
small. We don’t have a BX/PX or a Commissary.
How strong/ or not is the sense of
community in the area? It’s HUGE, not so much on the Military front, but community is really important
here. There are always events/fundraisers going on which for me is really fun.
For example, our street had a huge street fair last month. Like 40,000 people
showed up to support the community and local artists/vendors.
Are there
any local festivals you have been to or are planning to attend? The Street fair was last month, and
then there’s a huge tree lighting ceremony the day after Thanksgiving that’s
really fun. Plus I have 3 different 5k/10k running events that support various
causes coming up in the next few months.
What is the overall feel of the community/area/base?
Have you joined any groups on base?
No, but I might do the Golf Tournament
next year.
