Big changes

2.07.2013

This morning as I enjoyed a long bubble bath with my daughter, she rubbed soap onto my back and made bubbles on my big belly.  Eventually we climbed out of the tub, painted our nails, and rubbed a half dozen creams and lotions into our bodies as we twirled to Britney Spears and Taylor Swift on Pandora.  After half hour or so we moved on to her bedroom where I helped her pick an outfit and allowed her to wear only two tutus over her pants.  She grabbed a couple bows and told me to go look in the mirror with her as she put them all on her head.
It got me thinking...

Our life is going to change a whole lot.  We are welcoming a BOY into this house soon.  Very soon.  Our afternoons are soon going to be split between arguments about mary janes versus pink snow boots and discussions about trucks and balls.  We're going to be forced to paint our nails less often in favor of playing dump truck.  Baby strollers and purses are going to have to make room for baseball bats and train tracks.

I grew up with three sisters.  All the neighbors were girls.  I have NO experience with little boys.  None.  I am going into this completely blind.

...Big changes are coming...

  1. It's going to be a new adventure that you'll acclimate as you go along.
That morning truly sounds perfect (if I had a little girl!) xo

  2. And you are going to ROCK IT OUT!

I have 2 younger sisters and mostly babysat girls [not by choice, just was the nature of the beast] so I'm terrified of having all boys when I have kids.

But, at the same time, your son having a sister is the best thing. He'll learn how to treat a lady and she'll be there to help him navigate the world of women ;)!

Can't wait for the pink vs blue stories!

  3. I have a sister that's four years younger than me, and a brother that is eight years younger. My mom is STILL commenting on how different it is to have a boy. My sister and I sure as hell had a good time dressing him in velour leggings, tutus, and painting his nails.

  4. it might be a big change but judging how great you are with your daughter, you will be such a successful mommy to a newborn baby boy too!!!

  5. I grew up with two sisters. We were all fairly girly. I also had a strong Mother, Nana, and Aunties. Lots of Estrogen!

I was nervous to have a boy because of all that, but it's been awesome. I love to play trucks, stacking, throwing. You will be great at it!

  6. Oh you will be an amazing mama to a boy too ... although I know where you are coming from since I just have Reagan and we get to do girl things too!

  7. You're gonna do great. He's gonna be your little man and I'm sure you'll be amazed at how effortlessly things fall into place having one of each. What a lucky boy to have such a fun mama and big sister!

  8. What a sweet time with your little girl. You will do amazing with a boy. My sister was terrified when she had a boy after being a girls mama for 4 1/2 years but now she loves it.

  9. I grew up with 2 younger brothers. We all just sort of did "everything". For example, we played Ninja Turtles and Barbies together. You'll make it work!

    1. Exactly. You can let the kids decide what they want to do, rather than having activities down split gender lines. My brother used to play Barbies with me.

    2. That's funny because my husband played Barbies with his sisters...he was the car driver, driving the Barbies around!

  10. I grew up with a sister but had mostly guy friends my whole life until I got married and couldn't be as friendly with the male gender... Perhaps why I like having boys around! But I will tell you that the fierce love sons have for their mamas is world-stopping. It will break your heart into tiny pieces to be held in equally tiny man-hands. Yep, your world will definitely change. But I hope you're surprised by how sweet it will still be. ;)

  12. Such a sweet post. I grew up with boys only... so I am dying for a little girl to dress up in tutus :) Boys are fabulous though.

  13. I also grew up with only a sister, so I'm very curious to see what it will be like if I have a boy someday!

  14. I could have written this myself, except for switching the genders and the activities. I am super nervous about having a girl who likes to do girly things. Hoping it becomes second nature just like having a boy did.

  15. awww... it will be fine (maybe not for your daughter) but boys are pretty easy to please :)

  17. You're going to love it!!! There is nothing like the mama/son bond and speaking from experience, I bet your daughter will LOVE bossing the little man around and having an instant buddy. It's tough at first as you establish new routines, but before you know it, you won't believe there was ever a time that he WASN'T there.

  18. You will do fine! Boys aren't that hard really. :)

  19. Boys are so much fun. :) And maybe Eva will enjoy some of the "new" boy things that your son will be interested in and that will just create more play! There won't be a dull moment, that's for sure. ;)

(But OMG, enjoy those leisurely mornings you've got going on now! Sounds awesome!)

  26. i love hearing the way you spend time with Eva! I know it will change but being a Mommy to a boy will come easy. I think having a boy in your life will make things even sweetier. I'm excited for your changes.. <3, Amy

  27. what a sweet post! i felt really unsure of what to do when we were having our boy (my brothers were much younger than me and i'm totally a girly girl!) but you know, it comes so naturally once they're here! and even though we have more babies now I always set aside "girl time" with my oldest daughter, you always have something special with your first!

  30. Oh you're going to have so much fun with your boy. My nephews are just a ball of energy. Plus I hear boys give lots of kisses to their mommies.
Love that you do such girly stuff with your daughter. That is awesome.

  31. Aw! Little boys are so much fun! And, while it's more fun to buy clothes for little girls, toys for little boys are WAY better :) You'll adjust just fine - but I hope Eva doesn't mind being chased around by her little brother (who's holding bugs/worms/something gross).
